Harry Potter: The Books

There are approximately 1,084,170 words in the Harry Potter series. (The word count for seventh book, hasn't officially been released, though a fan has counted.)

The books have been translated into 69 languages, including Latin and Ancient Greek.

As of June 2008, over 400 million Harry Potter books have been sold. And the number has grown over the past three years to about 450 million.

The amount of Harry Potter books that have been sold could circle Earth twice.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban had to be released after school hours to avoid truancy.

In June of 2000, the New York Times Book Review kicked the Harry Potter books off of their best-seller list, after them having stayed there for 79 weeks (since December 27, 1998), in order to 'clear some room', because apparently, there hadn't been enough room for newer books to get on there. However, they did make a new best-seller list for children, which is where the books were moved to. At this point, only the first three books had been released. But once again, in 2004, when the first five books had come out, a new list had been made. This one for children's 'series' books, so they were put as a whole.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the fastest selling book of all time. In three markets, it had sold over 11 million copies in its first 24 hours, beating out the record sales of the previous Harry Potter books. (Calculating, we can say that over 127 books were sold each second.) Moreover, more than one person in every ten UK households had bought the book.
