Ancient Rome: 75 Ft. Underground

Herculaneum, an old town in the Roman empire, was buried under 75 feet below the surface, under what was once lava.

There had been an eruption from the infamous Mt. Vesuvius that had also destroyed the town of Pompeii. It had only taken a day for Pompeii and Herculaneum to be buried with lava and ash from the eruption.

They were known once more only 1,700 years after the incident.
