Packers: Name

A 'Packer" is someone who works at a packing house, an establishment for slaughtering, processing and packing livestock into meat, meat products and byproducts.


The Packers were named after the third largest industry in Green Bay- meat packing. If they were named after the #1 industry, they would be called The Green Bay Toilet Roll Makers!

Green Bay is hailed as 'The Toilet Paper Capital' and has been home to the world's largest toilet paper manufacturer since the 1920s. Northern Tissue--renamed Quilted Northern in 1993--opened in Green Bay Wisconsin, in 1902. By the 1930s the company was producing its famous "splinter-free toilet paper," and the city had proudly earned the title of Toilet Paper Capital of America.
