2007 Infection Control Survey

A 2007 survey among American 9th through 12th grade students revealed that:
  • Twenty-nine percent of students had ridden with a driver who had been drinking alcohol within the previous 30 days.
  • Only 58 percent of females and 48 percent of male middle school students washed their hands after using the bathroom.  Of those, only 33 percent of the females and eight percent of the males used soap.
  • Twenty percent of students had smoked cigarettes on at least one day within the previous 30 days.
  • Forty-five percent of students had at least one drink of alcohol on at least one day within the previous 30 days.
  • Twenty percent of students had used marijuana one or more times within the previous 30 days.
  • Four percent of students had used methamphetamines one or more times during their life.
