Ancient Rome: Vindolanda Tablets

There were these letters of Ancient Rome, known as the Vindolanda tablets, which were put in a bonfire to be burned, but they were saved by a shower of rain.

Archaeologists have tried to conserve them and stop them from being ruined. (The wood – they were wooden tablets – can be easily ruined by being exposed to air. The writing may fade even more.) This way, they can preserve special artefacts of the Roman culture, and people can see and read them in the future.
