Today, 12 April 2011, marks the 50th anniversary of the first man in space, Yuri Alekseyevich (try pronouncing that!) Gagarin. He was in space for a total of 1 hour and 48 minutes!
His first name is sometimes transliterated to Yuriy, Youri and Yury.
