Approximately only 200 Asian Lions live in the wild

Yep, it's true. Only an estimated 200 - 260 Asian Lions live in the wild, according to National Geographic.

Though these lions once lived in areas from the Middle East to India, today, the lions left in the wild only live in India's Gir Forest. Excessive hunting, pollution of water, and decrease in prey has largely reduced their habitat. They are one of the five major big cats found in India, along with the Bengal tiger, the Indian leopard, the snow leopard and the clouded leopard. Lions are the only cats that live in groups named prides, and usually consist of 3 males and about 12 females, all of whom are related.
